About
Like the Little Red Hen of the 1930’s fable, I tend to do a lot of things myself, drawing on my years of experience in magazine journalism and my lifelong love of art. Works on paper are what I enjoy best, like watercolors and scratchy pen and ink, printmaking, book arts, writing and (god help me) editing.
More recently I’ve become a knitting/fibre aficionado, and in 2005 everything came together (sort of) neatly when I founded Yarn Magazine. Midway through 2007 I began this blog, wanting an outlet for those neglected other arty-crafty loves of my life, and late in 2007 I sold Yarn to keen new publishers so I could go collapse in a heap for a while. Now, still feeling the effects of having worked a bit overmuch for a bit too long, I am observing the guideline provided by the name Little Red Hen: to take on only as much work as I can handle on my own. I’m gladly anticipating more time for art, writing, craft and — it almost goes without saying — the family who’ve willingly supported my every venture. (One hopes they’re looking forward to more handknitted garments being made for them.)
